Terumo Interventional Systems Launches Roadsaver Carotid Stent System in Limited Market Release

May 27, 2025—Terumo Interventional Systems, a division of Terumo Corporation, announced the early commercial availability of its FDA-approved Roadsaver carotid stent system.

According to Terumo Interventional Systems, a limited market release of the Roadsaver carotid stent system is planned for summer 2025, and a full market release is anticipated in fall 2025.

As noted in the company’s press release, the Roadsaver carotid stent system, when used in conjunction with Terumo’s Nanoparasol embolic protection system, is indicated for the treatment of carotid artery stenosis in patients with elevated risk for adverse events after carotid endarterectomy and who meet the following criteria:

  1. Either de novo atherosclerotic or postendarterectomy restenotic lesion(s) in the internal carotid arteries or at the carotid bifurcation, with ≥ 50% stenosis if symptomatic or ≥ 80% stenosis if asymptomatic (both defined by angiography); and
  2. A vessel with reference diameters between 3.5 mm and 9 mm at the target lesion.

Terumo Interventional Systems stated that the device is available in widths from 5 to 10 mm and lengths from 22 to 47 mm and has a rapid-exchange shaft length of 143 cm. Roadsaver is fully resheathable and repositionable, with a low-profile, 5-F design that enhances its crossability, noted the company.

Additionally, the company noted that Roadsaver has a dual-layer micromesh. Its closed-cell stent design has the flexibility of an open-cell stent for increased flexibility and wall apposition in complex anatomies. It is designed to contain plaque to the vessel wall and prevent plaque protrusion, protecting against distal embolization, stated Terumo Interventional Systems.
