Terumo Provides Update on Operations in Japan
March 25, 2011—Terumo Interventional Systems (Somerset, NJ), a subsidiary of Terumo Corporation (Tokyo, Japan), issued a statement addressing the company's operations and outreach efforts following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami disasters in Japan.
The company advised that its Japan-based production facilities have resumed operation and that it is effectively managing other factors, such as the rolling blackouts instituted by Tokyo Electric Power Corporation, to minimize any potential impact on Terumo's production operation.
Terumo reported that the initial earthquake and tsunami caused no damage or casualties at its Tokyobased headquarters or its Japan-based manufacturing plants. One subsequent aftershock created minor damage to one Terumo plant, but this damage has not had a material impact so far on Terumo's ability to supply products to the global market. However, Terumo continues to assess the status of all of its Japanese suppliers that provide raw materials for the production of Terumo products at all global plants. Terumo also maintains multiple manufacturing sites around the globe.
The company stated that it will continue to share new information as it becomes available.
Terumo Corporation has made a significant contribution of supplies and money to support disaster relief in Japan. Additionally, the United States-based Terumo Interventional Systems enacted an internal matching contribution program in cooperation with the American Red Cross. The company expressed its condolences and support to its colleagues in Japan and to the people of Japan.
