Terumo’s Azur Vascular Plug and PG Pro Microcatheter Embolization System Introduced in the United States

July 14, 2021—Terumo Medical Corporation announced the introduction of its Azur vascular plug, which is compatible with a microcatheter to occlude arteries up to 8 mm in diameter. An addition to Terumo’s embolization portfolio, the Azur device is indicated for use to reduce or block the rate of blood flow in arteries of the peripheral vasculature.

Additionally, the company is introducing the PG Pro peripheral microcatheter embolization system, which is indicated for the peripheral vasculature for the infusion of diagnostic and therapeutic agents. The PG Pro microcatheter is designed to deliver all three sizes of the Azur vascular plug. It is available in radial lengths up to 165 cm and has a 1,200 psi rating for clearer fluoroscopic imaging.

Both devices are currently available only in the United States.

According to Terumo, the Azur vascular plug is available in sizes ranging from 2.5 to 8 mm to treat arterial anatomy and features a short deployment length for increased precision. Features include a conformable nitinol braid that stays in place even in tortuous anatomy. It also comes with an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene and polyethylene terephthalate inner composite membrane to facilitate mechanical occlusion. The plug’s detachment mechanism provides immediate and reliable deployment and fully allows for repositioning.
