Vivasure Medical's PerQseal Large-Bore Closure Device Launched in Europe
November 9, 2018—Vivasure Medical Limited announced the commercial European launch of the company’s PerQseal large-bore closure device, a percutaneous vessel closure device designed for use in large-bore transcatheter procedures.
According to Vivasure Medical, PerQseal is the first sutureless, fully absorbable synthetic implant for large-bore arterial punctures. PerQseal’s technology includes the use of an intravascular patch that works by sealing the vessel from the inside to allow the artery to return to its natural state.
“In my first clinical experience with PerQseal, I found the device intuitive and well controlled, which helped me quickly learn how to use the technology safely and successfully,” said Saib Khogali, MD, in the company’s announcement. “I believe the PerQseal has the potential to be an important large hole closure device in many [transcatheter aortic valve replacement] and [endovascular aneurysm repair] patients.” Dr. Khogali is a consultant cardiologist at the Heart & Lung Centre, New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom.
Prof. Horst Sievert also commented in the company’s announcement, “Closing the artery has been a concern since we started using transcatheter techniques for valve implantation. The PerQseal device is a very innovative solution for closing large holes, and we are enthusiastic to make it part of our armamentarium.” Prof. Sievert is the Director and Founder of the CardioVascular Center in Frankfurt, Germany.
