CREST Published in NEJM
May 26, 2010—Thomas G. Brott, MD, et al published the CREST (Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Versus Stenting Trial) study results online ahead of print in the New England Journal of Medicine. The data were presented for the first time on February 26 at the International Stroke Conference 2010 in San Antonio, Texas and were reported at that time by Endovascular Today (2010;9:12–16).

CREST Results Published in NEJM Show Equivalence of CAS to CEA
May 26, 2010—The CREST (Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Versus Stenting Trial) study results were published by Thomas G. Brott, MD, et al online ahead of print in the New England Journal of Medicine. SCAI Calls for Expanded Coverage for Carotid Artery Stenting
May 26, 2010—The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) stated that the results from the CREST (Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Versus Stenting Trial) study published by Thomas G. Brott, MD, et al online ahead of print in the New England Journal of Medicine should convince the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) to reopen its coverage decision to give carotid artery stenosis patients an opportunity to choose carotid artery stenting (CAS) and allow physicians to tailor treatments for the best possible outcome. The evidence now strongly supports individualizing treatment and offering stent coverage so that more patients who may benefit from this safe, effective, and less-invasive treatment can have access to it, SCAI stated.
CREST-2 Completes Enrollment
August 13, 2024—CREST-2, the Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy or Stenting Trial, has completed patient enrollment.
CAS and CEA Show Equal Safety and Efficacy at Lowering Long-Term Stroke Risk in 10-Year CREST Results
March 21, 2016—The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, recently announced that the 10-year findings from the CREST (Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Versus Stenting Trial) study demonstrated that stenting and surgery are equally effective at lowering the long-term risk of stroke from a narrowed carotid artery.
Protocol for CREST-2 Trial Published
May 4, 2017—The protocol for the Carotid Revascularization and Medical Management for Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis Trial (CREST-2) was published online ahead of print in the International Journal of Stroke by Virginia J. Howard, PhD, et al on behalf of the CREST-2 study investigators.
CREST Data Show Equivalence Between CAS and CEA
February 26, 2010—Long-awaited results from the CREST (Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Versus Stenting Trial) study were presented today for the first time at the American Stroke Association's Annual International Stroke Conference 2010, which convened on February 24–26 in San Antonio, Texas.
