USA Fibroid Centers Study Evaluates Outpatient UAE for Uterine Fibroids

April 1, 2025—USA Fibroid Centers announced findings from a landmark clinical study confirming that uterine artery embolization (UAE) to treat uterine fibroids delivered life-changing benefits for patients and can be safely performed in an outpatient setting.

The study, which was conducted by USA Fibroid Centers and Clinics Group, is the largest of its kind and has the potential to reshape fibroid care nationwide, noted the press release.

According to USA Fibroid Centers, the study analyzed 1,285 patients, primarily in New York and Pennsylvania. The study was published by interventional radiologist Jean-Francois Geschwind, MD, et al in Diagnostics. Yan Katsnelson, MD, CEO and Founder of USA Fibroid Centers and Clinics Group, was lead investigator of the study.

As summarized in the press release, the findings included the following improvements with UAE: reduced heavy bleeding (96%), decreased pelvic pain and fatigue (94%), fewer urinary issues (92%), more physically active (82%), enhanced energy and mood (85%), improved sexual function (71%), and overall improvement in quality of life (86%).

In addition to its clinical success, the study highlighted UAE’s potential to close health care gaps. Approximately 40% of successfully treated patients were on Medicaid, demonstrating how outpatient centers can expand access to care for women who might otherwise lack treatment options, noted the press release.

Dr. Geschwind stated in the press release that UAE is a “major advancement in fibroid care.” He further commented, “This study proves that UAE is an incredibly effective minimally invasive therapy that can be delivered safely in outpatient settings. By expanding access, we are fundamentally changing how fibroid care is delivered in this country.”
