ATTRACT Trial on DVT Treatment Completes Enrollment
January 21, 2015—The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) Foundation announced that Principal Investigator Suresh Vedantham, MD, et al have completed enrollment in the ATTRACT (Acute Venous Thrombosis: Thrombus Removal With Adjunctive Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis) trial, which is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
The trial accrued its originally planned cohort of 692 patients, who were enrolled at 56 hospitals. In September 2008, the SIR Foundation announced the commencement of the trial.
The ATTRACT trial will determine if the use of pharmacomechanical catheter-directed thrombolysis in patients with acute proximal deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevents postthrombotic syndrome and improves quality of life.
Commenting on the milestone to Endovascular Today, Dr. Vedantham stated, “The ATTRACT Steering Committee is incredibly pleased at the successful accrual of 100% of the study’s original target sample. We are very proud of the perseverance shown by our site investigators and their local collaborators, which was driven by their shared dedication to improving outcomes in DVT patients. We enter the final follow-up phase of the study with an unwavering commitment to rigorous study conduct and with great optimism that the study’s results will ultimately provide the most credible and impactful clinical guidance available to physicians who manage DVT.”
Dr. Vedantham is with the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.
More information about the trial is available on the SIR Foundation’s website at www.sirfoundation.org/clinical-trials/attract.shtml and the ATTRACT study’s Washington University website at www.attract.wustl.edu.
In a September 2014 interview with Endovascular Today, Dr. Vedantham provided an update on the ATTRACT trial and shared his insights on DVT treatment, regulatory challenges in the venous space, and the progression of interventional radiology fellowships.
