Biocoat Becomes Surmodics Services & Technologies Division

December 10, 2025—Biocoat, Inc. announced the formation of Surmodics Services & Technologies, a newly named division of Surmodics, Inc. that will carry forward the portion of Biocoat’s business remaining after merging with Surmodics and divesting certain Biocoat assets in connection with the transaction.

GTCR LLC, a private equity firm that made a majority investment in Biocoat in November 2022, entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Surmodics in May 2024. In November 2025, Surmodics announced the imminent closing of the acquisition.

Surmodics Services & Technologies, based in Horsham, Pennsylvania, provides advanced hydrophilic and other coating technologies as well as specialized services to medical device manufacturers worldwide. The company works with medical device manufacturers at every stage of the development process, noted the press release.
