Biolitec’s Elves Radial 2ring Pro and Leonardo Laser 1940 Introduced for Venous Treatment

June 23, 2023—Biolitec AG, headquartered in Vienna, Austria, is introducing two new products in its Elves Radial family of endolaser vein system devices for minimally invasive laser treatment of insufficient veins at the 23rd European Venous Forum held in Berlin, Germany, on June 22-24, 2023. The commercial launch of the Elves Radial 2ring Pro laser fiber and the single-wavelength Leonardo 1940 laser was recently announced by the company.

According to the company, the Elves Radial 2ring Pro laser fiber is capable of removing even highly tortuous veins because of its additional channel for saline solution. The saline solution can be inserted directly to the front of the fiber tip via a rear luer lock connection, stretching the vein before the laser light is emitted.

The wavelength of the Leonardo 1940 laser enables more efficient absorption of water components in the vein wall, which significantly reduces the occurrence of bruising, shortens convalescence, and gives excellent aesthetic results.

Additionally, the company reported the first empirical experience with an off-label use of the Elves Radial 2ring Pro laser fiber in the treatment of varices. By combining distal endovenous laser ablation and proximal foam sclerotherapy, varices can be sclerosed in a single step, reducing the risk of recurrence or neovascularization caused by untreated varices.

A retrospective single-center cohort study from Switzerland showed persistent complete occlusion of treated truncal veins and neovascularizations even after 52 weeks. No clinically relevant complications were observed. The study was published by Simon Bosart, MD, et al in Dermatologic Surgery (2023;49:575-580).

With these additional products, Biolitec’s system for minimally invasive varicose vein laser therapy can effectively and sustainably remove large truncal veins, side branches and perforating veins, veins with a large diameter, strongly tortuous veins, and smaller varicose veins, stated the company.

In June 2022, the company launched the Elves Radial 2ring swift fiber, providing a complete laser fiber range for the treatment of varicose veins.
