Cook Medical’s Advance Serenity PTA Balloon Catheter Available in New Options
June 29, 2023—Cook Medical announced that new size options and locations are now available for its Advance Serenity hydrophilic percutaneous transluminal angioplasty balloon catheter product line. The device is used by interventionalists for below- and above-the-knee procedures to treat patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). The catheter is manufactured by Surmodics and distributed by Cook Medical.
According to the company, the Advance Serenity 18 is now available in 5- to 10-mm balloon diameters and is compatible with 4-, 4.5-, 5-, and 5.5-F sheaths to treat complex lesions, with options to include larger-vessel PAD. The Advance Serenity 14 and Serenity 18 balloons are also still available in 2- to 4-mm balloon diameters and compatible with 4-F sheaths. Advance Serenity is made with a laser-formed, low-profile entry tip, noted Cook Medical in the press release.
The new product options were announced at the 2023 Vascular Annual Meeting held June 14-17 in National Harbor, Maryland. The company stated that all Advance Serenity products are now available in both the United States and Canada and will also be available in Europe in the coming months.
“PAD affects around 113 million people.1 If left untreated, PAD can become deadly,” commented Alec Cerchiari, Director of Product Management for Cook’s PAD and Venous Specialty, in the press release. “After looking at the needs of patients with this condition, we built on our previous innovation and are excited to expand the sizes, uses, and availability of this product. The Serenity balloon complements our balloon portfolio for interventionalists who are treating patients with complex lesions.”
