Mark A. Turco, MD, Joins Covidien as CMO of Vascular Products
May 2, 2011—Covidien (Mansfield, MA) announced that Mark A. Turco, MD, has joined the company as the Chief Medical Officer of its Vascular Products business. Dr. Turco will oversee the business's medical affairs operations in the United Sates and Europe, primarily focusing on clinical affairs, health economics and reimbursement, professional affairs, and clinical education.
According to Covidien, for the last 10 years Dr. Turco has been affiliated with the Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland, where he has served most recently as Director of Cardiac and Vascular Research. As an interventional cardiologist associated with Cardiovascular Consultants in Takoma Park, he has had a large clinical practice treating complex coronary, structural, and peripheral artery disease. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and a member of the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association's Mid-Atlantic Affiliate and Greater Washington Region.
Covidien noted that Dr. Turco has been involved in more than 100 key studies in vascular therapies, including serving as the national coprincipal investigator in multiple studies related to coronary artery lesions and saphenous vein graft disease. He also has acted as the principal investigator for studies dealing with the full spectrum of vascular disease, including carotid disease, lower extremity arterial revascularization, and coronary artery disease.
