Medtronic to Distribute FMD’s Transradial Guidewires in the United States
July 15, 2025—Medtronic announced it has entered into an exclusive United States distribution agreement with Japan-based Future Medical Design Co., Ltd. (FMD) to sell FMD’s specialty and workhorse peripheral guidewires. This agreement expands Medtronic’s portfolio of devices for transradial access in the treatment of peripheral artery disease, noted the company.
Medtronic advised that it is the sole distributor of FMD’s 10 new F-14 and F-18 peripheral stainless-steel guidewires. The 0.018-inch 400-cm wire, along with Medtronic’s 200-cm (working length) In.Pact 018 drug-coated balloon and Pacific Plus percutaneous transluminal angioplasty catheter provide a comprehensive suite of tools needed to reach lesions from a transradial approach, noted the company.
As stated in the press release, the FMD guidewires are engineered for crossability, trackability, and tip retention, allowing for the treatment of complex cases. The devices’ 0.014- and 0.018-inch diameters can be used in both complex and routine cases; their 300- and 400-cm working lengths allow for femoral or radial access; their stainless-steel cores provide strength and torqueability; and their multiple tip loads allow for navigating tortuous vessels and crossing challenging lesions or occlusions.
