Merit Medical's Prelude Ideal Hydrophilic Sheath Introducer Launched in EMEA Markets
December 13, 2018—Merit Medical Systems, Inc. announced the launch of the Prelude Ideal hydrophilic sheath introducer in European, Middle Eastern, and African markets. The device was launched in the United States earlier in 2018.
The device, designed primarily for use in radial access procedures, has an outer diameter suitable for use with a wide range of anatomy, including in patients with small and thin vessels. The device has thinner walls, which allows the sheath body inner diameter to be larger, providing more room for catheters and other devices.
The Prelude Ideal is constructed with the company's flat wire-braiding technology, providing higher resistance to kinking and sidewall compression compared to the leading competitor’s sheath. The tip of the Prelude Ideal's sheath tubing utilizes a hydrophilic coating; hydrophilic coatings have been proven in clinical studies to reduce the risk of radial artery spasm, noted Merit Medical Systems.
