Royal Philips Partners With Nico.Lab on Stroke Triage Technology

July 7, 2021—Royal Philips announced a strategic partnership agreement with Nico.Lab, a MedTech stroke care company. This new partnership is intended to advance Philips’ commitment to improving outcomes for stroke patients. Philips is connecting information, technologies, and people across the stroke care pathway to enable care teams to work quickly and act decisively.

According to Philips, the partnership with Nico.Lab brings a cloud-based, end-to-end artificial intelligence (AI)–based stroke triage and management solution called StrokeViewer, which will optimize the stroke workflow. StrokeViewer analyzes CT scan data with AI and automatically detects large vessel occlusion and its location. It then shares this analysis with physicians at both primary stroke centers (general radiologists and neurologists) and intervention centers (stroke neurologists, interventional neurologists, and radiologists) where the patient is eventually treated.

“The biggest gain for faster treatment for stroke patients is in the workflow,” commented Professor Dr. Wim van Zwam, MD, in the company’s press release. “Reducing the throughput time of patients requires faster exchange of critical patient information, such as high-quality medical images, between hospitals and departments in order to decide on the best patient treatment.” Prof. van Zwam is an interventional radiologist at Maastricht University Medical Center in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
