Terumo Aortic’s RelayPro Thoracic Stent Graft System Approved in Japan

December 10, 2021—Terumo Aortic announced that the Japanese Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency has granted approval of the RelayPro thoracic stent graft system for sale in Japan for the treatment of patients with thoracic aortic aneurysms.

According to the company, the low-profile, next-generation RelayPro device is designed to expand the treatment of thoracic endovascular aortic repair to patients with smaller access vessels. The platform utilizes the same stent design and materials, as well as the company’s dual-sheath technology of the Terumo RelayPlus system. Additionally, RelayPro features a 3- to 4-F reduction in outer profile.

Terumo Aortic advised that RelayPro is available in Japan with a nonbare stent design to treat thoracic aortic aneurysms. This configuration is further complemented by a bare stent version. Both designs offer a wide range of sizes to meet the specific anatomical needs of patients.

In August 2021, the company announced that the RelayPro received FDA approval in the United States by the FDA. In Europe, the device received CE Mark approval in 2017.
