Terumo Neuro’s Sofia Flow 88 Launched in EMEA Markets
June 2, 2025—Terumo Neuro, a wholly owned subsidiary of Terumo Corporation, announced the commercial availability of the Sofia Flow 88 neurovascular aspiration catheter in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) markets.
According to Terumo Neuro, the Sofia 88 neurovascular aspiration catheter offers an 0.088-inch inner diameter and is designed to provide reliable trackability, procedural flexibility, and physician control.
The company stated that the EMEA launch of the large-bore catheter builds on the legacy of the Sofia catheter line within the company’s stroke portfolio, which the company is showcasing at the LINNC Paris 2025 conference held June 2-4 in Paris, France.
Terumo stated that the new Sofia 88 catheter complements the company's broader stroke solution portfolio to offer a fully integrated approach across aspiration, access, retrieval, and navigation. The Sofia 88 device is compatible with the 6-F Sofia Plus aspiration catheter and supports integration into existing aspiration strategies.
Clinical evidence from the SOFAST registry and the SESAME trial evaluating the 6-F Sofia Plus device as a first-line approach demonstrated strong results across speed, efficacy, and safety and overall clinical outcomes, noted the company.
In June 2024, the company announced that results from the SOFAST study were published by Dheeraj Gandhi, MD, et al online in the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery.
On May 13, Terumo Neuro announced the commercial availability of the Sofia 88 neurovascular support catheter in the United States.
