Viz.ai’s Viz LVO Stroke Triage Module Receives Renewed CMS New Technology Add-On Payment

August 4, 2021—Viz.ai announced it has received a New Technology Add-on Payment (NTAP) renewal from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for its Viz LVO artificial intelligence–powered stroke triage module, which is FDA-cleared to automatically detect and triage suspected large vessel occlusions.

Viz.ai noted that this reimbursement opportunity will continue to give patients access to this stroke technology. Viz LVO is eligible for reimbursement up to $1,040 per eligible patient. CMS first granted a NTAP for Viz LVO (formerly known as Viz ContaCT) in September 2020.

According to the company, CMS ruled that Viz LVO demonstrated significant time savings, improved clinical outcomes, and increased access to care. This new ruling will extend the reimbursement time frame for health care providers using Viz LVO, which is currently implemented in over 800 United States hospitals. The Viz.ai reimbursement team supports hospital billing departments through the Viz Care+Program, which is focused on workflow and economic enhancement across health system customers, advised the company.

In Viz.ai’s press release, Wendy Elliott, Assistant Vice President, Marcus Neuroscience Institute at Baptist Health South Florida in Boca Raton, Florida, commented, “We wanted to take every opportunity to benefit our patients through the use of Viz.ai. We have increased the number of patients we treat, reduced our door-to-treatment times, and started to see NTAP reimbursement from CMS just a month after we started billing.”
