Volcano's Visions PV .035 IVUS Catheter Cleared in US and EU
October 4, 2012—Volcano Corporation (San Diego, CA) announced that it has received clearance to market its Visions PV .035 digital intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) catheter in both the United States and Europe. The new catheter is designed to image large vessels and to allow for less iodinated contrast in endovascular procedures.
According to Volcano, the Visions PV .035 catheter incorporates new centimeter markers to facilitate length measurements for selecting treatment devices; additionally, the markers make endovascular aortic repair procedures faster and easier and eliminate the need for additional marker catheters or a sterile ruler. Other enhancements include a longer connector length to improve procedural flexibility; new materials; a softer, more rounded tip with lower entry profile; and GlyDx hydrophilic coating for delivery through tortuous anatomy. The IVUS capability allows physicians to observe vessel morphology and make real-time measures for the treatment of diseased arteries and veins, stated the company.
