Covidien (Mansfield, MA) introduced the newest member in its family of acute dialysis catheters, the Mahurkar 12-F highpressure triple-lumen catheter, which was launched at the end of February 2011. These new triple-lumen catheters are indicated for hemodialysis, apheresis, infusion, central venous pressure monitoring, and high-pressure contrast injection. They offer a third lumen, which keeps an independent port ready for blood access, high-pressure contrast injection, central venous pressure monitoring, and fluid or medication delivery between dialysis treatments. The catheters have a patented laser-cut side slot to minimize potential for positional occlusion and the likelihood of clot formation by minimizing debris attachment, the company stated. The thermosensitive material provides optimal stiffness during insertion and softens up to 50% postinsertion for vessel conformity and patient comfort.

Vascular Solutions, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN) announced the immediate availability of its new Disposable Vein Hook. The Disposable Vein Hook provides a safe, quick, and easy way to perform a phlebectomy procedure using completely disposable components, the company stated. The device consists of a plastic handle with a blade and safety guard on one end and a hook on the opposite end, allowing a physician to quickly perform a phlebectomy procedure by making the incision with the blade end and then turning the device around and using the hook end to remove the varicosity.

The Disposable Vein Hook has an ergonomic, comfortable, and familiar tactile feel and is intended for single-patient use for treating superficial varicose veins and varicosities associated with superficial reflux and incompetence of the great saphenous vein in the lower extremities. This procedure can be performed in conjunction with endovenous laser therapy treatment or as a standalone procedure. Medrad Interventional (Indianola, PA) has introduced their next-generation aspiration catheter, the Fetch2 catheter. Performance improvements in the new device include a flexible, variable pitch coiled shaft for improved kink resistance. Other performance improvements include an enhanced distal radiopaque marker band for better visibility and positioning marker bands to minimize the need for fluoroscopy, the company stated. For operator convenience, Fetch2 also provides dual syringes and filter baskets with a more accessible, clear tray package. The defining features of the earlier Fetch aspiration catheter have been retained, such as a low 4.2-F catheter profile and unique convex-cut distal opening. Despite its low profile, the Fetch2 catheter has demonstrated effective clot-removing ability, the company stated.
