Cook Medical has received premarket approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for its Zenith Spiral-Z AAA iliac leg graft. The device is indicated for use in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms that require graft support in the iliac artery.

“Zenith Spiral-Z provides physicians with Cook's most kink-resistant and trackable iliac leg graft to date,” said Phil Nowell, vice president of Cook Medical's Aortic Intervention division.

Zenith Spiral-Z features enhanced flexibility and kink resistance due to a continuous nitinol spiral stent. It also offers increased radial force at the proximal sealing site with Cook Medical's latest technology in sealing stent design. The Zenith device's Z-Trak introduction system features a hydrophilic Flexor sheath to reduce surface friction and facilitate precise device delivery.

As part of Cook Medical's Zenith Flex AAA endovascular graft product line, Zenith Spiral-Z was launched in Europe following CE Mark approval in April 2011.

Boston Scientific Corporation (Natick, MA) announced the global launch of the Mustang balloon dilatation catheter for use in percutaneous transluminal angioplasty procedures. The company has launched the product in the United States, Europe, and other international markets.

The low-profile, high-pressure Mustang is a highly deliverable 0.035-inch balloon dilatation catheter that has been designed in a broad range of sizes for use in a wide scope of peripheral angioplasty procedures. The device uses the company's NyBax balloon material, a coextrusion of nylon and Pebax polymers engineered to provide highpressure, noncompliant dilatation in a low-profile balloon. The Mustang balloon catheter incorporates such features as a burst pressure of up to 24 atm, a 7- X 200-mm balloon that is compatible with a 5-F introducer sheath, and a broad matrix of up to 203 codes. The device's versatility and extensive size matrix allows it to address a wide range of peripheral needs including blockages in femoral arteries and dialysis fistulae, the company stated.
