Adjusted and Case-Matched Analysis Evaluates Association of Paclitaxel and Mortality After Peripheral Angioplasty

May 3, 2020—An adjusted and case-matched multicenter analysis of paclitaxel and mortality after peripheral angioplasty found that when relevant risk factors were taken into account, there were no associations between paclitaxel and midterm mortality in patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD).

Study Evaluates Inpatient and Outpatient Outcomes and Costs After Revascularization for CLTI

December 15, 2023—In a study published online in BJS Open, Saratzis and colleagues evaluated postoperative outcomes and postprocedural health care resources and costs after revascularization for chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI), finding that revascularization is not associated with more postprocedural appointments or increased costs as compared with primary amputation.1 KEY FINDINGS There were no significant differences in postprocedural health care appointments and costs at 1 year for CLTI patients who underwent revascularization versus primary amputation.

COSTLY-TLR Study Evaluates Costs of TLR After Femoropopliteal PAD Intervention

A recent retrospective, multicenter study published in the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery by Saratzis et al analyzed health care payers’ costs of target lesion revascularization (TLR) procedures for femoropopliteal peripheral artery disease (PAD) after stenting and found that the main contributor of the very considerable costs was procedure time.1 KEY FINDINGS The mean cost for all procedures was €21,917 ± €2,110, and the mean cost per operating minute of TLR was €177.

Study Evaluates Impact of Fenestrated EVAR on Renal Function

September 14, 2015—In a study of the impact of fenestrated endovascular aneurysm repair (FEVAR) on renal function, Athanasios N. Saratzis, MD, et al concluded that FEVAR has a significant perioperative impact on renal function, but 1-year results are similar to open aneurysm repair (OAR). Relevant studies should be conducted to assess whether FEVAR patients may benefit from targeted strategies to prevent acute kidney injury (AKI), advised the investigators.
